While these are actually two separate compounds, located right next to one another, you may buy your ticket to both at once. The Wat Phra Kaeo is also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha for it is here where this famous little sculpture is located. When you enter the main structure, don't forget to check the little Buddha's clothing - it is known to mimic the weather of that time of the year. During the winter months he even wears a scarf. The Grand Palace is the former residence of the Thai kings and is one of the most beautiful examples of tranditional thai architecture mixed partially with typical architecture of european palaces in the 19th century.
Wat Pho
Also known as the temple of the reclining Buddha, it is another iconic sightseeing Mecca of Bangkok. The largest temple in the city houses the largest statue of the reclining Buddha. If you are interested in Buddhism, Thai architecture or just wanna glaze in aaww, don't forget to check it out. And another advantage? You get a free bottle of water upon entry - that's just priceless in the scorching tropical temperatures.
Wat Arun
Take a ferry across the river for 5 baht and come visit one of the best skyline-building structure in Bangkok. While this Khmer-style temple is worth visiting on its own, take it as a slight plus that once you climb stairs to the viewpoint terrace on the main phrang, you can enjoy beautiful views of the river, the other two main temples and the historic center of Bangkok. And if you are there around the sunset, don't forget to watch it across the river and this temple. It will be one of the sights you will never forget. :)
Golden Mountain
The fourth temple that is worth visiting is the Golden Mountain (or Wat Saket). This beautiful Buddhist sanctuary offers you breathtaking views of this Thai metropolis. Truth, it is a bit further from the center, so it is actually quite hard to see the main tourist attactions, but the view of the city is interesting either way. Go check it out. And strech you legs - there will be a lot of stairs :)
Khaosan Road
Have you already seen enough temples? Well there is more in Bangkok. I wanna recommend you to go try this short street. Situated in the heart of the historic center of the city, this is the number one Backpacker paradise of Bangkok. You will meet so many people of so many cultures, you may try thai beer, tons of tropical fruits (including the infamous Durian), scorpions or snakes on a stick or famous coco ice drinks. Just make you pick and enjoy your night, for there no party like the one in Bangkok. Just be careful not to get involved in any drug activity...
¨
And these were the TOP 5 sights in Bangkok. Till next time. Have a nice day :)
